Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush is on the brink of joining Manchester City, the club confirmed on Friday. The Egyptian star, who has been in scintillating form this season, was left out of Frankfurt’s matchday squad for their Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund due to ongoing transfer negotiations.

Marmoush, 25, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Frankfurt, scoring 15 goals in 17 league matches and providing 10 assists. His stellar performances have reportedly attracted significant interest from Manchester City, who are struggling in the Premier League this season and looking to bolster their attacking options.

Frankfurt confirms Marmoush transfer talks

In an announcement made just hours before the Dortmund match, Eintracht Frankfurt revealed the reason for Marmoush’s absence.

"Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in talks with another club for the transfer of Omar Marmoush. The player is therefore not part of the team today," the club stated on social media.

Speaking to DAZN before the match, Frankfurt sporting director Markus Kroesche confirmed that the Egyptian international was set to join Manchester City.

"It looks like Omar will be leaving us, and that's why he's not in the squad," Kroesche said. "We've been in regular discussions with Manchester City for the past few days."

Marmoush joined Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer from Wolfsburg. Since his arrival, he has quickly become one of the Bundesliga’s most prolific attackers, forming a key part of Frankfurt’s offense.

His tally of 15 league goals places him just behind Bayern Munich's Harry Kane in the Bundesliga scoring charts. Additionally, his 10 assists highlight his ability to contribute beyond scoring, making him an all-around threat in the final third.

Marmoush’s dynamic playing style, characterized by pace, precision, and a keen eye for goal, has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Manchester City, in particular, views the forward as a key addition to revitalize their squad, which currently trails Premier League leaders Liverpool by 12 points.

German and international media outlets have reported that Manchester City is prepared to pay up to €80 million ($82 million) for Marmoush. If finalized, the deal would make Marmoush one of the most expensive Egyptian footballers in history, second only to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

For Manchester City, this transfer represents a significant investment in their pursuit of a stronger attacking lineup. The English champions have struggled for consistency this season, and Marmoush’s arrival could provide the spark they need to challenge for trophies.

Marmoush’s impending departure is a significant blow to Frankfurt. The forward has been instrumental in their strong performances this season, and his exit leaves a void in the team’s attack.

However, Frankfurt is likely to use the transfer fee to reinvest in the squad. The club has a history of identifying and developing talented players, and fans will be eager to see how the team responds to Marmoush’s exit.

Manchester City’s motivation for the transfer

For Manchester City, the acquisition of Marmoush aligns with their strategy of strengthening the squad with versatile and dynamic players. The forward’s ability to play across the front line provides Pep Guardiola with tactical flexibility.

City’s struggles this season have highlighted the need for additional firepower, particularly as they contend with injuries and inconsistent performances from their attacking players. Marmoush’s form in the Bundesliga suggests he could make an immediate impact in England.

As the transfer talks near completion, all eyes will be on Marmoush as he prepares to make the leap to the Premier League. The Egyptian international will face new challenges as he adapts to the demands of English football, but his performances in Germany suggest he has the talent and determination to succeed.

With Manchester City aiming to turn their season around, Marmoush’s arrival could mark the beginning of a resurgence for the reigning Premier League champions. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this high-profile transfer unfolds and what it means for the futures of both Marmoush and his new club.
