The new BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 team has wrapped up its final preseason testing session in Jerez, marking an important milestone before the start of the 2025 World Championship in Buriram, Thailand. Over the course of three intense days, riders Izan Guevara and Tony Arbolino worked on adapting to their new Boscoscuro-equipped machines while integrating into the newly established team under the guidance of Team Manager Alex De Angelis.

The Jerez test provided an opportunity for Pramac Yamaha Moto2 to fine-tune the bike's setup rather than focus on outright speed. The primary goal was to establish a strong foundation for the opening races of the season, ensuring both riders felt comfortable with the new machinery and team structure.

Despite the focus on development, the team's lap times showed promise. Izan Guevara secured 12th place in the general classification, setting a fastest lap of 1:40.472. The Spanish rider, who ended the 2024 season with three top-seven finishes and a podium in Malaysia, expressed satisfaction with the progress made during testing.

"I am very happy with these three days of testing. They were very intense but also extremely productive," said Guevara. "We worked in a clear direction, keeping in mind the first race in Thailand and the start of the season. We finished on a positive note, with our best time not far from the top Boscoscuro, and with increasingly good feelings on the bike. I also did a race simulation that makes me optimistic."

Tony Arbolino, Guevara's new teammate, faced a more difficult test session. Despite showing strong form at the end of the 2024 season, the Italian struggled to find confidence with the front of his bike, finishing 24th overall with a best lap of 1:40.998. He acknowledged the challenges but remains hopeful about the upcoming races.

"It was a very difficult three days, in which I was not able to get the most out of the bike," Arbolino admitted. "We had a lot of chattering problems that prevented us from fully testing everything we wanted, and also from avoiding taking the wrong path. We focused on the harder tyres, which we will use in the first races, without doing a real time attack. I am curious to see what will happen in Thailand, but I am sure the story there will be completely different."

Team Manager Alex De Angelis weighs in

With Pramac Yamaha Moto2 embarking on an entirely new project, Team Manager Alex De Angelis acknowledged the complexity of building a competitive structure from scratch. He remains optimistic about the team's potential despite the early hurdles faced by Arbolino.

"We knew it would not be easy, given that everything is new: the team, the bikes, the riders," De Angelis explained. "These three days in Jerez were a real test to understand the bike and how it reacts to changes. Tony was faced with a significant problem, and he focused mainly on solving this problem. I was impressed by his ability to feel what is happening on the bike and to explain it clearly."

With the Jerez test now behind them, the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 team shifts its focus to the season opener at the Buriram circuit in Thailand from February 28 to March 2. The next challenge will be ensuring that both riders can maximize their potential on race weekend and establish a strong start to the 2025 campaign.

As the countdown to the first Grand Prix continues, Pramac Yamaha Moto2 will look to refine its strategies and further improve the performance of both Guevara and Arbolino. If they can capitalize on their early progress, the team could emerge as a strong contender in the highly competitive Moto2 field.
