Aprilia’s Jorge Martin has been confirmed to race in the opening round of MotoGP 2025 in Thailand, despite concerns over his fitness following a crash in pre-season testing. The Spanish rider, known as "The Martinator," suffered injuries to his legs and hands during testing at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia but is determined to compete in the first grand prix of the season.

MotoGP 2025 kicks off with the Thailand Grand Prix at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, set to take place from February 28 to March 2. With the season opener fast approaching, questions have arisen about Martin’s ability to perform at his best following his recent surgery.

Jorge Martin injured during Sepang testing

During pre-season testing at the Sepang International Circuit, Martin suffered a crash that resulted in injuries requiring surgical intervention. The severity of his injuries raised doubts about his availability for the first race of the season. However, Martin has since undergone successful surgery and is now focused on his recovery.

Despite the setback, a source confirmed to Motorsport that Martin will be present for the opening round in Thailand.

"He will be there for the first race with all certainty, it's confirmed. We'll just have to wait and see if he can be a little better physically before he goes," the source told As.

Martin’s recovery and race readiness

Martin’s participation in the Thailand Grand Prix is a significant boost for Aprilia, as he is expected to be a key contender for the 2025 season. His ability to recover quickly and compete at a high level will be closely monitored by the team and fans alike.

The Spanish rider’s resilience and determination have been evident throughout his MotoGP career, and he is no stranger to overcoming physical challenges. However, returning to full race fitness in such a short time frame will be a difficult task.

Strong track record in Thailand

Martin has enjoyed success at the Chang International Circuit in previous seasons. In the 2024 Thailand MotoGP, he secured podium finishes in both the sprint race and the main race, finishing second in each.

Given his strong performances in Thailand last season, Martin will be eager to replicate or improve upon those results. However, his physical condition will play a crucial role in determining whether he can challenge for victory.

Looking ahead to MotoGP 2025

As the 2025 MotoGP season begins, all eyes will be on Martin’s condition and how he adapts to racing after his recent surgery. Aprilia will be hoping that their star rider can quickly regain form and deliver strong performances throughout the season.

With a competitive field that includes reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and rising stars such as Pedro Acosta, the fight for the championship is expected to be fierce. Martin’s ability to stay competitive despite his injury could shape the early part of the season.

MotoGP fans will be eagerly watching when the lights go out in Buriram on March 2, as Martin pushes through his recovery to make his mark in the 2025 season opener.
