Despite nearly two decades of dominating the music industry, Taylor Swift still has unclaimed milestones at the Grammy Awards. With 52 nominations before 2025 and 14 wins to date, the pop icon remains without a victory in two of the Recording Academy’s most prestigious categories—record of the year and song of the year.

This year, she aims to change that with Fortnight, the lead single from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. Featuring Post Malone, the brooding electro-pop track has positioned Swift for another shot at these elusive honors. On February 9, she will find out if this is finally the year she claims them.

A record-setting Grammy history

Swift’s relationship with the Grammys dates back to 2008, when she earned a nomination for best new artist but lost to Amy Winehouse. Since then, she has cemented herself as one of the most awarded musicians in the ceremony’s history.

She holds the record for the most album of the year wins by a performer, taking home four trophies for Fearless (2010), 1989 (2016), Folklore (2021), and Midnights (2024). If she secures another victory this year for The Tortured Poets Department, she will extend that historic achievement.

Beyond album of the year, Swift has won in multiple categories, including best pop vocal album, best music video, and best country song. However, despite several attempts, record of the year and song of the year have remained out of reach.

A history of nominations in record and song of the year

Swift’s pursuit of these top prizes began in 2010 when You Belong With Me, a breakout hit from Fearless, earned nominations in both categories. Since then, she has consistently returned to the race but has yet to emerge victorious.

For record of the year, which recognizes the artist and producers, Swift has been nominated six times:

  • You Belong With Me (2010)
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (2013)
  • Shake It Off (2015)
  • Blank Space (2016)
  • Anti-Hero (2024)
  • Fortnight (2025)

Her track record in song of the year, which honors songwriting, is even more extensive:

  • You Belong With Me (2010)
  • Shake It Off (2015)
  • Blank Space (2016)
  • Lover (2020)
  • Cardigan (2021)
  • All Too Well (10-Minute Version) (2023)
  • Anti-Hero (2024)
  • Fortnight (2025)

This year’s nomination for Fortnight marks her eighth attempt at winning song of the year and her sixth for record of the year.

Can Fortnight finally deliver a win?

One of Swift’s strengths has been her ability to evolve musically while maintaining commercial and critical success. Fortnight, a haunting, synth-driven track featuring Post Malone, showcases a darker, more introspective side of her artistry.

Jack Antonoff, Swift’s longtime collaborator, co-produced the song, making him a key figure in both categories. If Fortnight wins record of the year, Antonoff, Swift, and Post Malone will share the honor. A song of the year win would recognize the trio’s songwriting contributions.

Unlike past Swift singles that leaned into upbeat, radio-friendly hooks, Fortnight is a slow-burning track with layered production and lyrical depth. Its moody aesthetic, combined with Malone’s understated yet evocative vocals, sets it apart from her previous nominations.

Competition and the road ahead

Swift faces tough competition in both categories, with nominees that include industry heavyweights. The record of the year category often favors songs with broad appeal and cultural impact, while song of the year tends to reward lyrical craftsmanship.

While Swift’s ability to craft hit songs is unquestionable, the Grammys have historically overlooked her in these specific categories. However, with Fortnight, she may have her best chance yet to break through.

Even if she doesn’t win, Swift’s continued dominance at the Grammys is undeniable. With 14 wins already secured and potentially more on the way, she remains one of the most influential artists in Grammy history.

Whether Fortnight finally delivers her long-awaited record or song of the year win, one thing is clear—Taylor Swift’s legacy at the Grammys is still being written.
